In the fiscal year 2022-23, the Indian electric bus market experienced notable growth, with a total of 1,919 electric buses sold, as reported by Coach Builders India, a India's premier platform for the bus industry.

PMI Electro Mobility emerged as the leader in market share, capturing a significant portion at 31.5%. Following closely behind was Olectra Greentech, securing a substantial share of 23.1%. Noteworthy contenders included Ashok Leyland’s Switch Mobility, which accounted for 19.8% of the market, and JBM Auto and Tata Motors, holding 11.8% and 6.9% respectively. The remaining market share was distributed among various smaller entities, reflecting the diverse landscape of the electric bus industry in India.

In terms of order bookings, JBM Auto emerged as a frontrunner with an impressive 5,000 electric bus orders from both state transport undertakings and private entities. Tata Motors followed closely with an order book of 2,600 electric buses, boasting a successful delivery track record of over 900 units.

PMI demonstrated its market presence with the deployment of 1,200 electric buses nationwide, supported by an order book of approximately 2,500 electric buses. Switch Mobility and EKA Mobility also showcased strong demand, with over 1,000 and 500 orders respectively.

These statistics underscore the growing demand for electric buses in India, driven by factors such as environmental consciousness, government initiatives promoting sustainable transportation, and advancements in electric vehicle technology. As the nation strives towards a greener future, the electric bus market is poised for continued expansion, offering significant opportunities for manufacturers and stakeholders alike.
